Accident at work
Worker suffers facial scarring from faulty hole drill
An operative was using a drill whilst working from upon a ladder. He was cutting holes in the underside of guttering and using a core drill. This incorporates a normal centre drill together with a circular cutting drill bit. The centre drill is essential to maintain the alignment of the unit. In this case it was discovered that the centre drill bit and housing were incompatible, thus allowing the center drill to slip inside the unit. Stability was lost and the drill then spun off the guttering, causing facial scarring.

The hole drill is composed of several components, with a central drill bit designed to initially penetrate the material being cut, and thereafter to keep the assembly centered. It is important that all components are compatible, so that the central drill bit doesn't become separated from the workpiece. In this case the drill bit was incompatible with the arbour, thus allowing the bit to retreat inside and negate the stabilising effect.
